About Dr. Najwa Mohamed
"It's not actually about the chair, it's about changing your perspective."
That’s what The Rose Colored Couch is all about. Inspired by the idea of rose-colored glasses, it’s about shifting the lens through which you see yourself and your world by changing the beliefs that once held you back. When your beliefs change, everything begins to look different.

I'm Dr. Najwa Mohamed
The Therapist who Believes Your Past Doesn't Have to Define Your Future
I understand the struggles of high-achieving women intimately, the perfectionism, self-doubt, and exhaustion from trying to prove your worth while staying true to yourself. As the daughter of an Egyptian father who moved to the US at 25 and an American mother, I also bring unique perspective to the additional complexities many first generation daughters face.
Growing up, I often felt like I didn’t fully belong anywhere. I stood out at school with a different name and background, while at the same time not feeling connected to my Egyptian side or Muslim faith. I spent years caught between worlds, not fitting perfectly anywhere, struggling with anxiety and limiting beliefs, and feeling pressure to be the perfect daughter while wanting to create my own path.
But my challenges weren't unique to cultural aspects. Like many clients, I struggled with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the exhausting achievement cycle that never felt like enough.
That journey from feeling small, insecure, and unsure of who I was, spending years trying to blend in and never feeling enough, to becoming confident, authentic, and genuinely proud of who I am is exactly what I want for every woman I work with. I didn’t just study these challenges; I lived them, worked through them in therapy, and emerged with a deep understanding of how to help others do the same.

Why This Work Feels So Personal
I am deeply passionate about helping women create lives they're excited about without limiting beliefs or pressure from family, society, or perfectionist tendencies dictating who they should be. I want them to believe in themselves, build genuine confidence, and decide what they want their life to look like, just like I did.
I have a special place in my heart for women with immigrant parents because I understand the unique complexity of navigating multiple expectations and values. But whether clients deal with cultural pressures or internal pressure to be perfect, the core work is the same: transforming from living out of fear and obligation to living from authentic desire and self-compassion.
I used to be full of self-doubt and fears about disappointing others instead of doing what was best for me. At times, I wanted to disappear, overwhelmed by my own fears and insecurities and unsure of who I was. I was afraid of upsetting others and didn’t believe in myself. Now, through my own growth and therapeutic work, I know who I am and what I want out of life. While I’m human and still have doubts at times, I believe in myself and live authentically
This work is my calling because I see incredible possibilities when women stop living from fear and start living from genuine self-knowledge. I've watched clients have honest family conversations about their dreams, step into professional power, and create genuinely fulfilling relationships and lives.

What You Can Expect With Me
The most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship, and my approach focuses on creating the type of environment where the women I work with feel safe, comfortable, and fully seen and heard.
First, we go to the root.
I help you understand where your beliefs about yourself came from, often childhood experiences that seemed small at the time but created lasting patterns. You might have been told you were "too dramatic" and learned to dismiss your own feelings, or perhaps you were praised only for achievements and learned to tie your worth to performance.
Then, we change the lens.
This is where the rose-colored glasses analogy comes in. It's not about seeing everything positively all the time, it's about changing the fundamental beliefs that color how you see yourself and your world. When you no longer believe you're "not good enough" or "too much," everything shifts.
Finally, we build practical skills.
I teach you mindfulness techniques, anxiety management tools, and communication strategies that work in your real life. The goal isn't just insight, it's transformation that you can feel and live every day.

Who I Work With
Therapy for women in Virginia and virtually in PSYPACT states who feel overwhelmed, lost, or stuck in their own heads. You don’t have to keep holding everything in.
High-Achieving Women with Anxiety: You look successful from the outside but struggle with constant self-doubt, perfectionism, and the fear of not being enough. You overthink decisions, replay conversations, and exhaust yourself trying to meet everyone's expectations.
Daughters of Immigrants: You navigate the beautiful but complex experience of honoring your family's culture and values while creating your own path. You feel the pressure to be the "perfect daughter" while also living authentically, and you're tired of feeling caught between worlds or having to choose between your heritage and your dreams.
Women Ready for Identity Integration: Whether or not cultural expectations are part of your story, you're not looking for surface-level advice about "balance", you want to understand how to honor your values while also creating space for your authentic self to emerge. You want to transform the guilt and anxiety into confidence and clarity about who you are and what you want.

How I Show Up For You
Authentic Connection: I show up as a real person, not a blank slate. My clients often comment on how natural and comfortable our sessions feel, there's nothing stiff or clinical about our work together.
Cultural Understanding: Whether you're navigating family dynamics, religious identity, or cultural expectations, I understand the nuances of living between different worlds because I've lived it too.
Collaborative Approach: This is your therapy, guided by your goals and comfort level. I'll never push you to discuss something you're not ready for, and I'll always check in to make sure our work feels right for you.
Deep Listening: I remember the details of your life because I genuinely care. You'll feel heard and seen in a way that might be new for you, and that foundation of trust is where real change happens.
